If you were Tally, would you ask the warden to make you pretty?
No, at least not at that very moment. Since Tally and Shay were walking in the park at night, the question would seen very odd to ask at the moment.

Tally has finally come clean. Do you think she should regret it? Do you think David will change his mind about her?
No, she shouldn't regret it. She gave herself up to save her friend. She should feel good that she finally told the truth. David shouldn't change his mind about her. If she cared that much about him, he should feel glad that she told him the truth.

Should Maddy have forced Shay to take the "cure"? Why or why not?
Yes, she should have given shay this "cure". These lesions could do serious damage to Shay's brain, make her hate Tally, and all of the other people she called friend.

If you were Shay would you take the cure? Why or why not?
No. If I were Shay i wouldn't take the cure. I would have a 99% chance that I wouldn't end up a vegetable. But a 1% chance that I would be one...

Respond to the following quote from the chapter...what does it mean to you? "Tally thought of the lesions on Shay's brain, the tiny cancers or wounds or whatever they are that she didn't even know she had. They were somewhere changing her friend's thoughts, warping her feelings, gnawing at the roots of who she was."
This person Tally is staring at isn't the Shay she knew. It was some beautiful person that Tally once called her friend.

Give a chronological lost of important events in the chapter. What's the kicker at the end of the chapter?
1.David goes off to find his parents.
2.Tally learns that Shay lived in New Pretty Town since becoming pretty.
3.Dr.Cable's tablet rang, Shay answered it to keep suspicion low.
4.David freed the captive Smokies, everybody ran to the roof
*KICKER* David's father, Az, is dead.

Is this quote a play on words, or does it have a deeper meaning to the story? "Radiology. Neurology. Magnetic Imagery," she read softly. " Operating theatre two."
It could have a deeper meaning. I believe the rooms hold the secrets that Maddy and Az took years to figure out.
What labels do Tally and David find in the Special Circumstances building? Give a BRIEF description of what you think each means.
RADIOLOGY:
The place the x-rays are held
NEUROLOGY:
The area the needles, and other tools to make a Pretty are held
MAGNETIC IMAGING:
The pictures the Pretty could end up looking like
OPERATING THEATRE TWO:
The room the operations are held.
Describe Shay's appearance at the end of the chapter using textual evidence.
"She was Tall & elegant, every feature perfection. Her eyes - deep and soulful, flecked down with copper and gold - widened with a troubled look. Her generous lips parted wordlessly and she raised one graceful hand."

In this chapter a few Uglies go to New Pretty Town to do a "trick". They make the words "THE SMOKE LIVES" with sparklers. If you had ONE chance to post a message important to you, what would it be and why?
"You only live once, make every minute count". This would be my message because it has significance. You can't redo anything. So live while you can.

The Uglies met in this chapter are similar to Tally at the beginning of the book. When you compare her to these Uglies, how has Tally changed and what has made her change?
Tally grew up. She learned everything can't be given, it has to be earned.

Do you think Tally's plan will work? David wants to save his parents, but what's driving Tally Do you think she is crazy, or are her feelings valid?
Yes, there is a good chance Tally's plan will work. She used the bungee jackets before, they could come to her advantage. Tally wants forgiveness from Shay snd the other Smokies. She knows now that things have consequences if you don't think things through. Her feelings could be a mixture of both, she wants to jump to the building, which is pretty crazy. But she is doing it to rescue a friend.

How do David & Tally describe the Rusties? Is it accurate?
David said not all of the Rustie are crazy, just a few.
Tally said long ago the Rustie are ignorant.
Both were accurate, but on different scales. Tally's school told her that the Rusties were dumb and stupid when as David has lived in the Smoke his entire life. He never learned what Tally learned.

What are the weaknesses of OUR society?
People are learning new things, but forgetting many other things that are important. Things that could cause a panic like what happened to the Rusties.
What are the weaknesses of THEIR society?
They couldn't control something. And it cost the Rusties their life's.

Find information and a picture about a time we wern't prepared. (i.e. a natural disaster or attack.) Post the information and cite it.
"Located near modern-day Naples in Italy, Pompeii was covered by ash from an eruption of nearby Mt. Vesuvius, a volcano that is still active today. The eruption occurred so suddenly that the ash covered and buried many people and objects in minutes. About one hundred years ago these objects began to be uncovered by archaeologists, most lying in exactly the same place they had been nearly two thousand years before. You will read more about Pompeii and Mt. Vesuvius in lessons to come."

Describe the irony in Tally's "victory" over Dr.Cable. What was lost in the process?
The Boss had salvaged a few magazines, but he lost his life in the process. The irony was the fact all of the other books were mercilessly burned.

Is David right? Is Tally amazing? Do you think she should feel guilty? Why or why not?
No, Tally isn't amazing. Tally has many reasons to feel guilty. First: Tally lied to Shay, Second: The only reason she came to Smoke, was to bring Shay back so she could become pretty. And lastly, the Smokies trusted her, and she betrayed them.

Who is the voice in the dark? Do you think it will be a friend or enemy to Tally? What do you think Tally will do?
The voice in the dark is a friend. The voice is probably David. Tally is going to start crying because she knows she can't go back to the Smoke.

Explain what self preservation means to you. Is it the most important thing? Would you lie because of it?
To me it means, to stay strong in what you believe in. Yes, self preservation could be the most important thing. I would lie because of it, epically if I had no choice.

Tally had changed her mind about the Smoke and the operation, but what will she do about all that now? Whose side is she on?
Tally knows what she did was wrong, coming to the Smoke just so it would benefit herself. Tally will side withe the smokies and will resist anyway possible to save her new friends.

Is this the climax of the book? Explain why or why you don't think so in a few sentences.
Yes, I think this is the climax. This is the part Tally was waiting for. The Special Circumstance comes and destroys every thing the smokies built. They burned the buildings, they captured the smokies and rounded them up, taking them back to the towns they were from.

Read the following quote David says to Tally. "What you do, the way you think, makes you beautiful." Name one person in your personal (home) life and one in your academic life (you may leave them nameless if you wish)...what makes that person beautiful?
In my home I would say my mom. She is beautiful because she always sees the beauty in others and can make me laugh, even if the joke is terrible.
In my academic life, my friend ******* is always in a good mood. She could never hurt someone on purpose.

Respond to the following quote, what does it mean to you/to the story? "Becoming pretty doesn't just change the way you look it changes the way you think." How would you want to change mentally and physically if you were pretty? (think...habits, intelligence, and physical attributes)
I would like to have brown eyes, because they make you seem mysterious. Black hair that is silky and smooth, that appears to have blue highlights in direct sunlight.

What does the following quote tell you about the city and society in general? " But you do know about gentics don't you? Sure I know all about genes. I knew two sisters, uglies, who looked almost the same. But parents and children?? That's just weird."
Children are kept away from the parents, which is not what should happpen. Childen should stay with them, so the parents can teach their children.
Predict what you think being "pretty" is.
A snobby, beautiful person who thinks they can rule the world.

Find an example of imagery, personification and simile. Quote directly from the book.
IMAGERY
page 250 "The warmth of his body cut the Autumn chill and she moved closer."
PERSONIFICATION
page 244 "She thought of the orchids spreading across the plains below, chocking the life out of the other plants."
SIMILE
page 244 "Like walking poisin she killed everything."
Does it require bravery to meet David's parents why or why not?
Yes, it would be frighting to meet someone you don't know.

Do you think Shay has a right to be jealous of Tally? Why of why not?
Yes, Shay was at the Smoke long before Tally, and she thinks because she knew him first, she should get the guy.
Tally received a gift from David in the chapter that is special. Have you ever received something that made others jealous as this gift did? Did your gift have a meaning behind it as Tally's had?
Yes, last Christmas my uncle gave me a shark board which is totally awesome by the way. And my friends who love to skateboard were jealous since shark boards are incredibly smooth and light. I don't suppose it has a meaning behind it.

Why would it have been easier for Tally to activate the pendant when she got to the smoke. Explain.
Tally didn't know all the people before she came to smoke, because when she activates the pendant, she will send all of the people back to the towns they were from.

If David's parents were doctors why do you think they ran away? Support your answer with textual evidence.
They probably felt that turning people to what they truly were, into Pretties, and they knew they had a choice, so they ran away.
"They reversed the operation?"
